Guidance Notes for Visitors

Arrival - On arrival visitors should report first to the Professional Shop where they will be advised of the Clubhouse door access code.

Dress Code -The general principle is that visitors shall conform to the best of golf standards both on and off the course. Please wear golf clothing that can be found in most professional shops. Tailored shorts are permitted with short socks.

Clubhouse - Smart casual wear is accepted in the Spike Bar and Main Lounge.  Golf shoes and waterproof clothing are not to be worn in the Clubhouse other than in the locker rooms and Spike Bar.

Jeans, tracksuits, t-shirts and training shoes / sneakers are not permitted either on the course or in the Clubhouse.

A jacket and tie must be worn at all times in the Dining Room at the weekend unless otherwise arranged with the secretary’s office.

Course Etiquette - Golfers will play from the yellow tees (green tees in winter) unless a prior arrangement has been agreed upon. This is to help ensure a good pace of play and for the enjoyment of all golfers. Normal courtesies and etiquette for golf should be always observed. If your group is holding up play, please stand aside and let the group behind play through.

At Royal Birkdale ‘Ready Golf’ is encouraged, players are both allowed and encouraged to play out of turn in a safe and responsible way.

- All holes and footprints must be raked on leaving a bunker.

- All divots are to be replaced and pitch marks repaired.

- Golf bags should not be placed on greens.

Practice Range - Available on the day of play, tokens can be collected from the Professional shop.

Mobile Phones - Please ensure they are silent in the Clubhouse; they may be answered and used discreetly in the Golfers’ Corridor and Locker Rooms.

Buggies - Use of a ride-on buggy is restricted to visitors who have a genuine incapacity to play golf unless aided by the use of the buggy. Anyone wishing to rent a buggy should complete the policy on our website www.royalbirkdale.com and contact the Secretary’s Office in writing.

Trolleys - Electric and pull trolleys may be hired from the Professional Shop, to book please call 01704 552030.

Catering - Available from 9.00am until 7.00pm (6.00pm on Sundays) between 1st April and 31st October and from 9.00am until 5.00pm between 1st November and 31st March.  Depending on numbers, catering may also be provided outside of these hours if arranged prior with the Secretary’s Office.

Security - No liability can be accepted for any articles left unattended on the premises, or in the car park.  Visitors are advised to take all reasonable precautions to secure their property and ensure valuables are not left on show in their cars.

Smoking or Vaping - Not permitted anywhere in the Clubhouse.
